"Harambee" is Swahili for "pull together"
Canadian Harambee Education Society
Giving girls the chance to educate themselves
The Third Annual Harambee Charity Golf Classic, 14 July 2011, was a huge success, with 80 golfers enjoying a day that started out rainy and blustery and ended dry. This year's event included a hole-in-one prize. One golfer actually did achieve this milestone, but unfortunately on the wrong hole. Prizes were awarded for best golfers, and also for most creative photo pose. Pictured are Ginny Golding and April Stubbs, Co-chairs and Team 16A, by far the most creative group.
Thanks to everyone involved, we grossed more than $35,000. The money raised through the tournament will be directed towards providing English and Life Skills workshops for the 700 CHES students in Kenya and Tanzania.

CHES Director Chris Harker has published White Necklace, a book that captures many of the special moments he and his wife Catriona have experienced during their many visits to Katesh, Tanzania since 2001. Some are joyous, others amusing and a few are tragic, but together they offer the reader a glimpse of what life is like for young people in small-town Tanzania today.
White Necklace sells for $20, with all proceeds going to CHES.

In February 2008, CHES sponsor Sara Williams visited Katesh and met the student she is sponsoring. The trip had an impact, as Sara realized that many female students are required to find lodgings in homes near to the schools they attend. Often and for a variety of reasons such accommodations are not suitable.
Sara has provided the funding for a 32-bed hostel for CHES girls in Katesh. It is now being built. Donations are welcomed.
