Last year the RR Smith Foundation was kind enough to provide the Canadian Harambee Education Society (CHES) with a grant of $1,500. The funds were to be used for school and personal supplies for the girls entering our four year programme in and around Kakamega, Kenya.
These provisions include the pens, paper and pencils one might expect when the girls embark on their secondary school career. But our girls all come from disadvantaged homes and so we include toiletries, pads, TP, mosquito nets and, on occasion, even mattresses.
The girls are extremely grateful for these supplies as they enable the girls to settle in to their new schools without worrying about such basic concerns as note-taking, hygiene, laundry or malaria.
CHES appreciates very much the generosity of the RR Smith Foundation. And the girls of course are delighted.
Asanta sana (Thank you very much).
